How to Apply

NZITF is a trust-based group

The New Zealand Internet Task Force (NZITF) is a trust-based group. We work very hard to ensure that trust is maintained across the group to ensure that members are comfortable sharing information and help with others in the group. We expect applicants to have a reasonable amount of experience within the information security community, and to have already spent time meeting other people working in the New Zealand information security industry. If you are new to the industry, or if you don’t know many others within the New Zealand information security community, then your application has a higher chance of being unsuccessful.

Types of membership

The NZITF offers two types of membership options - Individual and Corporate. Individual membership is where a person applies for NZITF membership for themselves. Individual membership is paid for by the NZITF member. If an Individual NZITF member changes companies they will be unaffected.

Corporate membership is slightly different. Corporate membership is where a company decides to pay for NZITF Membership for it’s employees. Corporate members get up to two (2) free NZITF members as part of their Corporate membership. Additional employees can be added to the Corporate Membership for additional annual fees per person. Individual members under Corporate Membership are still required to pass the vetting process in order to become NZITF Members. If a Corporate NZITF member changes companies they will be transferred to Individual membership at the next billing cycle.

Corporate Members get their company logo on the Corporate Members page, discounted training course costs, discounted NZITF Conference tickets, and access to the NZITF Threat Intelligence Sharing Platform (once a legal agreement is signed).

The Application process

To join the NZITF, you should first of all read the relevant Application Guide. The Application Guide will walk you through the application process step by step. We recommend that you keep the Application Guide open in another browser window while you complete your NZITF Application as it will help you complete your application quickly and correctly.

Once you have the Application Guide open in another browser window, click on one of the Application buttons below. Once you have submitted your application, it will begin it’s journey through the NZITF membership process. This process is extensive; many applications take up to 2 months to complete.

IMPORTANT: Your application will be vetted by the current NZITF membership. You will need at least four current NZITF Members to vouch for you, and at least one of those people needs to be from a different organisation to yours. You are not allowed to ask people to vouch for you, but you are allowed to remind them that you will be applying. Each person that vouches for you potentially puts their membership at risk when they vouch for you, as their NZITF membership may also be terminated if you are expelled from the NZITF; this potential jeopardy ensures that NZITF members will only vouch for people who they know and trust.

2. Apply for your membership by clicking the relevant button below, following along with the Application Guide instructions so you check the right boxes.
