NZITF 2025 Conference – Call For Papers
Are you interested in presenting at the NZITF annual conference at Te Papa in Wellington on Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 July 2025? We’re hoping you’re keen to be involved this year - either in-person or remotely.
Background
The New Zealand Internet Task Force (NZITF) is a non-profit with the mission of improving the cyber security posture of New Zealand. It is a forum based on mutual trust for debate, networking, information sharing, and collaboration on matters relating to the cyber security of New Zealand, and comprises a community of security professionals across government, law enforcement, academia, information security, and private sector industries including telecommunications, information technology, and banking.
The audience is varied. All NZITF members are experienced security practitioners, but they have many and varied backgrounds and specialisation. As such we look to have a varied range of talks to appeal to our attendees.
The conference runs across two days - a member day and a community day, and we operate under 'Chatham house rules’. We also use the Traffic Light Protocol for sensitive information; the default is TLP:AMBER unless you indicate otherwise. There will be no press present.
What we’re looking for in a talk
We welcome you to submit a talk proposal for this year’s NZITF Conference. We’re interested in talks that are:
Relevant: We want talks that are about problems that our NZITF Members would be facing now, or that they will be facing in the next little while.
Educational: We want talks that teach the audience about things they may not know about. Talks about governance, upcoming law changes, security roadmap how-tos are just as educational as technical talks about new malware. Please include links to useful or prerequisite reading in your talk proposal if your talk assumes some sort of expert knowledge.
Useable: We want attendees to be able to make use of the information they receive at this conference. We want people to take away your lessons and make things better for themselves. So we want all talks to have some kind of helpful guide or lists of suggestions that NZITF Members can put to good use.
Shareable (where possible): We would prefer that we can share your talks with our NZITF Members after the conference, so that they can in turn share them with colleagues within their companies. This then allows them to use the knowledge you've provided to improve their security. We do recognise that some talks include TLP:RED information, and we allow for that fact by either sharing content with the TLP:RED information redacted (by the author), or not sharing the presentation at all.
Non-vendor: We are not a conference where you can advertise your products or services. You can talk about a subject that you discovered using your products or services, but the talk cannot be about any specifics about your product or services. This does not apply to open source or community based projects.
How to submit a talk
If you've got something in mind to present then please complete this short online form with your submission details by date tbc.
Talks will be reviewed by the NZITF Conference Programme Committee and all talk submitters will be notified if they have been selected by date tbc.
Monthly Webinars
If your talk doesn’t get accepted for the conference it may make a great webinar! Every paper submitted for the NZITF Conference will be considered for the NZITF monthly webinar programme, assuming the presenter is keen.
We hope you’ll submit a proposal.
